Caitlin and Martin’s wedding at Belmond El Encanto was one of those weekends I’ll carry with me for a long time, much like our destination wedding in Norway. The property sits up in the Santa Barbara hills, wrapped in bougainvillea and old garden terraces, with Pacific views stretching out below. It’s a place that sets the mood before the couple even arrives. Their celebration wove together classic romance, lush garden beauty, and personal traditions that felt entirely theirs.

An Intimate Welcome Dinner at San Ysidro Ranch

The weekend started with a welcome dinner at San Ysidro Ranch, tucked into the foothills above Montecito. I love that property, where we had photographed Caitlin and Martin’s engagement the year before. String lights, stone paths, the smell of gardens in the evening air. Caitlin and Martin were surrounded by their closest people, and you could feel how much everyone was looking forward to the days ahead. That dinner set a warm, relaxed tone for everything that followed.

A Traditional Ceremony at Trinity Church

They exchanged vows at Trinity Church in downtown Santa Barbara, a historic chapel with deep stained-glass windows and warm wooden pews. When Caitlin came down the aisle, the room went quiet in the best possible way. The ceremony was personal and unhurried. Every tradition they’d chosen felt meaningful rather than obligatory, and their closest people were right there with them. The church’s classic bones were a perfect match for the way they’d planned the whole day.

A Lush Garden Reception at Belmond El Encanto

After the ceremony, everyone moved to the garden terrace at El Encanto for the reception. Kenia Z. Florals had filled the space with cascading greenery and warm candlelight, and it looked beautiful as the evening light faded. Caitlin and Martin’s entrance was unforgettable. They came in to the sound of a live bagpiper, a nod to their heritage that caught guests completely off guard in the best way. The whole room lit up.

Dinner was a genuinely lovely affair. The menu drew on local ingredients, paired with Santa Barbara wines, and the tables sat beneath open sky with fairy lights woven through the garden. The toasts were the kind that move between laughter and tears without warning. Family and friends had clearly thought carefully about what they wanted to say, and it showed.

Later in the evening, the party moved indoors and the dance floor filled up fast. Caitlin and Martin were both out there the whole time, which is always a good sign. The music was great, the energy was high, and nobody seemed in any hurry to leave. It’s the kind of night you keep talking about for years.

If you’re planning a wedding in Santa Barbara and want photographs that still feel like you in twenty years, I’d love to hear about it. Take a look at my wedding photography services to see how I work, or get in touch and let’s talk about your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

El Encanto sits on a hillside above Santa Barbara with sweeping Pacific views and seven acres of landscaped gardens. The Spanish Colonial architecture, the bungalows tucked along brick paths, and the attentive service all add up to a setting that feels genuinely special. Couples who want a romantic, polished wedding in Santa Barbara keep coming back to it for good reason.

Can you recommend other venues near Santa Barbara for wedding celebrations?

Yes, and there are some great options nearby. San Ysidro Ranch is a historic Montecito estate that works beautifully for garden receptions and intimate gatherings. Trinity Church in downtown Santa Barbara is a classic choice for couples who want a traditional ceremony with real architectural character. Each spot has its own feel, so the best fit depends on the style you’re going for.
