Cielo Farms in Malibu offers one of Southern California’s most naturally cinematic backdrops for wedding photography, with sweeping vineyard rows, olive trees, and panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains. It's a Tuscan-inspired estate is designed for outdoor celebrations, which means every part of the property—from the sunlit ceremony lawn to the rustic stone barn and vine-covered terraces—photographs beautifully throughout the day, especially during golden hour when the light rolls across the hills.
The venue is made for storytelling. Everything is close together, so the energy of the day never really drops as people move from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception. By the time the sun sets behind the hills and the string lights take over, the atmosphere shifts into something warm and cinematic, and it always feels like I’m photographing the natural peak of the celebration rather than trying to create it.
Photographing weddings at Cielo Farms feels effortless and elevated: editorial-style portraits in the vineyards, romantic golden-hour moments overlooking Malibu Canyon, and warm, atmospheric reception images framed by string lights and the estate’s rustic architecture. It feels like the entire property is designed to make beautiful moments happen naturally. Couples tend to relax quickly there, which means I get to focus less on forcing poses and more on capturing real interaction, movement, and emotion as the day unfolds.

a few of my favorite blog posts featuring Malibu
One of the highlights of any Cielo Farms wedding is golden hour. As the sun begins to set over the Malibu hills, the property becomes bathed in warm, soft light. This is often the most magical time of the day for wedding portraits. Some favorite portrait locations include:
The Terrace
The terrace at Cielo Farms offer soft light, rolling vineyard views, and warm Malibu sunsets create a timeless, romantic backdrop.
The Ceremony Lawn
Heading back to the ceremony arch for golden hour portraits is one of my favorite moments at Cielo Farms—the warm sunset light filtering through the vineyard creates a romantic and effortlessly beautiful setting.
The Hillside Overlooks
With sweeping views stretching into the distance, these locations showcase the dramatic beauty that makes Cielo Farms so unique.

Cielo Farms Wedding
Cielo Farms has beautiful bridal preparation spaces that offer good natural light and a romantic aesthetic. I always recommend arriving early to take advantage of the soft morning light for getting-ready portraits before the day ramps up — the property looks stunning in the early hours before guests arrive, and it's a calm, unhurried way to start the day.
Cielo Farms is genuinely beautiful in every season, but late summer and autumn are particularly magical — typically August through October. The hills are golden, the light is warm and rich, and the Santa Monica Mountain views are at their most dramatic. Spring is equally lovely, with green vineyards and soft, even light. Cielo Farms is one of those rare venues where golden hour is spectacular regardless of when you get married.
My favorite spots for Bride and Groom portraits at Cielo Farms are 1) the terrace with its sweeping mountain views, and both the 2) ceremony lawn and 3) hillside overlooks at golden hour. I usually plan to take portraits at all three if timing allows — as each offers a completely different look and feel, and together they give you a beautifully varied set of images from your wedding day.
The ceremony lawn area works beautifully for family portraits immediately after the ceremony — it's a natural gathering point, the background is gorgeous, and guests don't have to walk far. The terrace is also excellent for larger group shots because the open space and wide views photograph beautifully. I always recommend keeping family portraits to 20–30 minutes immediately post-ceremony so we have maximum time for couple portraits later.
