Mckenzie and Joe got married on a warm summer day at Cielo Farms, tucked into the rolling hills above Malibu. It’s one of those venues that stops you the moment you arrive. The ceremony took place beneath a full floral arch, and the reception spilled out under the open sky as the canyon turned gold behind them. They wove Jewish traditions through every part of the day, and it made the whole celebration feel grounded and deeply personal.

A Romantic Wedding at Cielo Farms in Malibu

Malibu Canyon gives the farm its character. The vineyard rows, the dry summer hills, and the Mediterranean feel of the terraces all add up to something that doesn’t look like anywhere else in Southern California. Mckenzie and Joe wanted elegance without stiffness, and this place delivered. If you love that classic-romantic-meets-LA mood, take a look at Arielle and Katie’s Ebell of Los Angeles wedding for a different side of the city. The sunshine was generous, the views were wide, and the whole day felt exactly like them.

The ceremony was outdoors, beneath a chuppah draped in white roses and lush greenery. The canyon framed them perfectly. Close family and friends filled the rows, and Mckenzie and Joe moved through each Jewish tradition with real intention. When Joe broke the glass, the cheers of “Mazel Tov!” rang out across the hillside. It was one of those moments that hits you right in the chest.

Elegant Outdoor Reception with Personalized Touches

As the sun dropped, guests moved into the tented reception on the vineyard. Long farmhouse tables ran the length of the space, dressed in white linen with white florals and soft gold accents. It was warm and beautiful without feeling overdone. The rustic bones of the space and the careful styling balanced each other well, and the whole room glowed by the time everyone sat down.

One of my favourite details was the place card installation. Each handwritten card was clipped to an olive leaf, a nod to the vineyard’s Mediterranean roots and a genuinely personal touch for every guest. Overhead, woven wicker pendants cast a soft amber glow across the tables. People dined and toasted under that light with the Malibu sky wide open above them. It felt intimate in the best way.

Golden Hour Portraits and Joyful Celebrations

Golden hour portraits are always worth the effort, and at Cielo Farms they’re something else entirely. Mckenzie and Joe slipped away for a few quiet minutes while the canyon light went deep orange behind the vines. The vineyard stretched out behind them, the hills glowed, and the two of them were completely relaxed. Every frame from that half hour is one I’d print large.

The hora was pure joy. Everyone packed the floor, the chairs went up, and Mckenzie and Joe laughed through the whole thing. The speeches came after, warm and genuine. By the end of the evening, it was clear that everyone in that room adored this couple. That’s the kind of wedding that stays with you.

If you’re dreaming of a Malibu wedding with real character, Cielo Farms is hard to beat, and the Hummingbird Nest Ranch vineyard in Ventura County is right there alongside it. I’d love to be there with you. Have a look at my wedding photography services or get in touch to start talking about your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Cielo Farms a great venue for weddings?

Cielo Farms sits above Malibu Canyon with vineyard rows, open terraces, and wide views of the surrounding hills. The property is private and genuinely beautiful. Outdoor ceremony spaces and flexible reception areas give couples plenty of room to make it their own, whether they want a relaxed afternoon or a full evening celebration.

How can I incorporate Jewish wedding traditions into my ceremony?

Jewish traditions like the chuppah, the breaking of the glass, and the hora bring real meaning and joy to a wedding day. Each one carries its own story. Working with photographers and vendors who are familiar with these customs means the flow of the day stays smooth, and nothing gets missed.

What should I consider when choosing a wedding photographer?

Start by looking at portfolios. Find a photographer whose style feels right for your venue and whose work shows both candid moments and relaxed portraits. From there, meet them. A short call tells you a lot about whether you’ll feel comfortable on the day. That comfort matters more than most people expect.
