There’s something undeniably magical about a California coast wedding — especially when it’s intimate, deeply personal, and designed with intention. Ellie & Chris’ Malibu elopement weekend was the perfect blend of elevated coastal elegance, meaningful connection, and laid-back luxury. Their celebration included everything from a candlelit welcome dinner in Santa Barbara to sunset portraits along the Pacific Coast Highway. Every moment felt effortlessly romantic.

If you’re dreaming of a Malibu elopement with ocean views, editorial-inspired portraits, and an unforgettable guest experience, this celebration is all the inspiration you need!

An Intimate Welcome Dinner at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara

The wedding weekend began with a cozy and elegant welcome dinner in the Fireside Room at San Ysidro Ranch. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Ellie & Chris created an atmosphere that felt warm, inviting, and incredibly intentional.

Before dinner, we wandered through the property’s iconic rose garden for portraits. The gardens were completely in bloom, creating the most romantic backdrop imaginable. Between the soft evening light, climbing roses, and the quiet intimacy of the property, it was the perfect start to the weekend.

The welcome dinner itself felt timeless — intimate conversation, candlelight, and the kind of evening that allows everyone to slow down and truly soak in the celebration ahead.

A Private Malibu Estate Wedding Overlooking the Coast

On the day of their Malibu elopement, Ellie & Chris chose a stunning private estate perched above the Malibu coastline. With panoramic ocean views, blue skies, and a gentle coastal breeze, the setting couldn’t have been more beautiful for their intimate ceremony.

Their ceremony backdrop featured sweeping views of the Pacific paired with elegant white florals by Knot Just Flowers. The floral design perfectly complemented the natural beauty of the coast — refined, organic, and effortlessly romantic.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the food. Every dish was lovingly prepared in-house by Ellie’s close friends, who also happen to be professional chefs. The dinner experience felt deeply personal and elevated all at once — ornate presentation, incredible flavors, and a sense of care woven into every detail.

Coastal Reception Design with Elevated Beach Vibes

The reception design embraced the essence of coastal California in the most sophisticated way. Guests gathered around one long reception table styled with hanging wicker lanterns, woven placemats, soft white florals, and warm candlelight.

The aesthetic perfectly balanced relaxed beach vibes with elevated design. Every detail felt cohesive and intentional. This created an atmosphere that was both luxurious and welcoming.

Golden Hour Porsche Portraits Along the Pacific Coast Highway

As golden hour approached, we headed out for one of the most iconic parts of the day — portraits along the Pacific Coast Highway in Ellie & Chris’ blue Porsche.

Cruising down PCH with the ocean beside us and the warm sunset light wrapping around the car created some truly cinematic moments. In addition, we captured a mix of editorial-inspired portraits, candid movement, and breathtaking aerial imagery. The photos showcased the Malibu coastline from above.

We finished the evening down on the sand, where the light turned soft and golden in the most beautiful way. Barefoot on the beach with waves crashing nearby, Ellie & Chris fully soaked in the final moments of their wedding day together.

Why Malibu is Perfect for an Intimate California Elopement

Malibu continues to be one of the most sought-after destinations for couples planning an intimate wedding or elopement in California — and weekends like this are exactly why.

From private oceanfront estates to dramatic coastal views, Malibu offers the perfect combination of luxury, nature, and relaxed elegance. Whether you’re envisioning a full wedding weekend with loved ones or a quiet sunset ceremony overlooking the Pacific, Malibu creates an experience that feels both cinematic and deeply personal.

Ellie & Chris’ celebration was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful weddings are often the ones centered around intentional moments, incredible scenery, and the people you love most.
