This beachy boho gender reveal started with a simple idea: celebrate a first baby on the coast, with soft colors, good flowers, and everyone the parents love close by. The theme was “Pink or Blue for Little Leu,” and the whole day lived up to it. It was originally shot under my former name, Wisteria Photography, and picked up by 100 Layer Cakelet shortly after.

A Dreamy Beachy Boho Gender Reveal Celebration
Jenny from Forrest and J put this one together, and she has a gift for making things feel both relaxed and considered. For a coastal celebration further south, take a look at our Estancia La Jolla ceremony setup. The party was set right on the Ventura County coastline, the kind of spot where you don’t need much to make it look good. Low tables on the sand, cushions everywhere, salt air. The boho details fit the location perfectly.
The palette ran from soft pink through to pale blue, and the florals from Rooted & Wild pulled those colors into something that felt organic rather than staged. Lauren Allen and Brittany Fagerlind handled the overall design, and every piece worked. The custom backdrop came from Seventh Bixel; Rachel Quarles did the calligraphy. Nothing looked out of place.
Expert Styling and Flawless Execution
Hair and makeup by 10.11 Makeup kept the mom-to-be and guests looking great all afternoon. The cake came from B Candy, and Sugar Crush Sweets did the cookies, both of which got photographed more times than I can count. Le Grand Courtage provided the champagne, and people were happy about that.
Lou & Roo Collective brought shibori blankets that worked perfectly on the sand. Wolf & Irving supplied the linens and Cherished Rentals handled the tabletop pieces, with additional rentals from Sweet Salvage Rentals rounding it all out. The mom-to-be wore a Show Me Your Mumu dress from Revolve. It moved well in the breeze and photographed beautifully.
Capturing Authentic Moments with Lisa Leanne Photography
I’m based in Ventura County and shoot a mix of weddings and lifestyle sessions. This one was genuinely fun to document. Gender reveals have a built-in moment of suspense, and when the blue smoke went up, the guests’ faces said everything. I was shooting as Wisteria Photography then, but the work and the approach are the same as what I do now under Lisa Leanne Photography.
If you’re planning a gender reveal, maternity session, or anything else worth documenting, I’d love to be there for it. You can also see the beachy boho newborn session that came out of a similar aesthetic. This session was also featured in full on the 100 Layer Cakelet blog, so head over if you want to see even more from the day. Take a look at my wedding photography services or get in touch and we’ll figure out the details.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a gender reveal party and how is it typically styled?
A gender reveal party is where expectant parents share their baby’s sex with friends and family, usually through a planned reveal like colored balloons, a cut cake, or a smoke cannon. Styling tends to reflect the parents’ taste, whether that’s a classic pink-and-blue palette, a boho outdoor setup, or something more seasonal. The point is simply to make the moment feel like a celebration worth showing up for.
How can I incorporate beachy boho elements into my event decor?
Start with natural materials: raw wood, rattan, linen. Add soft, flowing fabrics in earthy or pastel tones. Organic florals and textured blankets do a lot of the heavy lifting. Handcrafted details like calligraphy signage or hand-painted backdrops give it a personal, made-for-this-event feel. Being outdoors near water helps everything breathe.
Why should I choose Lisa Leanne Photography for my special event?
I work with couples and families across Ventura County who want photos that actually look like them. My background is in weddings, but I shoot lifestyle sessions, maternity, gender reveals, and family events too. Every session gets the same care. If the light’s good and the people are real with each other, the pictures take care of themselves.
