Spring in Wildwood Regional Park hits differently. I drove out to Ventura County for Marisa and Jake’s session and the hills were already rolling green, yellow mustard flowers everywhere you looked. If you haven’t been to Wildwood in March or April, put it on your list. It’s one of those parks that genuinely does half the photographer’s job for you.

A Springtime Engagement Session in Wildwood Regional Park

The park is a genuinely great spot for engagement photos when the wildflowers come through. Warm light filtered through the oak canopy most of the afternoon, and a soft breeze kept the dresses moving in every frame. The yellow mustard against the green hills gave us natural color contrast without doing anything forced or staged.

Marisa wore a floral dress for the first half, and it read beautifully against the grass and oak trees. The soft colors sat naturally in the scene without competing with anything. Then as the sun started dropping she switched into a flowing pink satin gown, and that’s when everything clicked. The silky fabric caught the golden hour light in a way that made every frame feel like it belonged in a film.

Capturing Romance and Connection

The location and the outfits helped, but Marisa and Jake are what made this session work. They have a very natural, easy way together. They were laughing at each other constantly, touching foreheads, sneaking looks. I direct pretty lightly once I see that kind of chemistry. My job shifts to staying ready and not getting in the way.

Engagement sessions aren’t really about pretty pictures. They’re about reading a couple, learning how they move together, and locking in frames that still feel true ten years from now. I loved spending that afternoon with Marisa and Jake. They made the whole thing easy, and I think you can see that in every image.

Why Choose Lisa Leanne Photography for Your Engagement Session

I’m based in Ventura County and I photograph high-end weddings and engagements across Southern California, from meadow sessions like Lake Sherwood to parks and canyons. My goal is always the same: images that look classic in ten years and still feel exactly like the couple in them. Whether you want a park session like Marisa and Jake’s, a Malibu Creek canyon shoot, or something more polished, I’ll plan it with you from start to finish and guide you through the whole shoot so it never feels awkward or stiff.

Have a look at my wedding photography services to see more of my work, or get in touch and let’s talk about your own session. I’d love to hear about you two.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Wildwood Regional Park a great location for engagement photos?

Wildwood gives you a lot to work with: rolling open hills, oak-shaded trails, rocky ridgelines, and seasonal wildflowers. In spring the mustard flowers push through the green grass and the whole place turns a warm gold-green that photographs beautifully. You get real variety across a single session, which means the final gallery feels like it came from multiple locations even though you never left the park.

How should we dress for an engagement session at Wildwood?

Soft, flowing fabrics in pastels or earth tones read really well against the greenery and wildflowers. Floral dresses and long gowns look particularly good here, especially in late afternoon light. Wear shoes you can actually walk in. The trails at Wildwood involve real terrain, and the best spots usually require a short hike to reach.

When is the best time to schedule an engagement session at Wildwood?

Spring is the sweet spot at Wildwood, roughly February through April when the hills go green and the wildflowers bloom. Within the day, I always recommend shooting in that last hour before sunset. The light turns warm and directional, the shadows go soft, and you get a glow that’s hard to replicate any other time of day.
